What an unbelievable honor to be featured on the box of Hohner’s top-of-the-line Marine Band style harmonica – the Crossover model!! I have played Hohner harmonicas from day one, and have been been a long-time endorser. Several years ago, I was asked to be a more official endorser, and helped with the development of the Thunderbird model and some other testing. Honored beyond words to be featured on the Hohner Crossover box and as always, I only play Hohner Marine Band style harmonicas…many times these Crossover models right out of the box!

NEW Hohner “Thunderbird” harps!
I have been playing some of the brand-new HOHNER Thunderbird harps recently…and why yes, that IS yours truly on the side of the box!! My man Joe Filisko is on the top of the box, who has designed the coverplates for this model, which are similar to the coverplates on the custom low-tuned harps I had Joe start making for me years ago. I have used some of these low tuned harps on our TWO brand new CDs! (“Rockin’ All Day” and “What’s It Gonna Take”…see above)
The new Thunderbird harp is a new model of low-tuned harmonicas, starting at Low F and also available in Low E, Low Eb, Low D, Low C, Low Bb, Low A, Low G, and Low Low F. I have been playing custom-made low-tuned harps for years in a blues & jump blues context and pioneering a new way to play these harp aside from the rhythmic/chugging style that has mainly been used by blues players on low-tuned harps. It’s great to finally have a real nice low-tuned harp that plays well out of the box. And NO, I am not being paid for this, I honestly play Hohners and feel this is a great harp. I have stayed with Hohner since my start because they make great harps and are now continuing to push forward with great new products like the Thunderbird.
I’m getting ready to re-vamp the website for my blues radio show that I host on WFDU – “Blues & the Beat“. This new membership website is the only site with access to the archives from the show (going back almost 10 years), along with some history of the music as well. New lower prices, new giveaways, and members will still have access to over 50 archived programs each month, with new shows being added monthly, and will also be eligible for monthly giveaways! Check out the “Blues & the Beat” website
Be sure to check out the shirts in the shirt store - including the new Bullet Microphone t-shirts, and check out the designs for “BadAss Harmonica”, Sonny Boy Williamson, George ‘Harmonica’ Smith, “Blues & the Beat”, Dennis Gruenling & more…
