You can now check me out currently on tour across the US and Europe with The Nick Moss Band for most of their tour dates! I have known Nick for over 20 years, and we have now started to tour together with his great band, doing a mix of Chicago blues, Jump blues, Rock & Roll, Contemporary blues and more! SEE MY TOUR DATES HERE
Here are some videos from the past few months with NMB, including from a tour in Norway…
“Ready Or Not” is out with the VizzTone label group!
My new all-original CD is out with the VizzTone label group (available on this site, CD Baby, Amazon and everywhere else)…and this time not only is at all originals rooted in the 1950’s Rhythm & Blues/early Rock & Roll vein, but I’m also handling all the vocals – SAY WHAT?!? That’s right, you heard me (or at least, you will now, lol!) While working on these tracks, aside from hearing from countless friends and fans tell me that I should sing for the past couple decades, I was making the demos and working out the tunes and gave it a go…and I just stuck with it. If you dig what I’ve been doing for the past number of years with Doug Deming (who is of course on this disc) and my Jump Time records, you will likely dig this mix of 50’s styled blues & roots music…with influences ranging from 1950’s rock & roll and rhythm & blues artists such as John Lee Hooker, Fats Domino, Louis Jordan, Chuck Berry and more. I’ll be updating the site with some reviews that are coming in…check’em out & grab the disc when you can!!
JAZZ-BLUES.COM “Harmonica wizard Dennis Gruenling has a new release on VizzTone, “Ready Or Not”…another highly enjoyable recording”
NOW DIG THIS “…the material, musicianship and delivery is so good that this is an irresistible experience…and find it far more rockin’ than many of the bands I see passed off as rockin’ bands on the current rock n roll scene.”
REFLECTIONS IN BLUE “Not only does he play some of the finest harmonica I have heard since the days of the old masters, he has written all of the recording’s 13 tunes and, he steps up to the microphone and shows himself as a top-notch vocalist…Be prepared to become a lifelong fan”
IL POPOLO DEL BLUES “…a variety that is exemplary manifesto of great technical ability of Gruenling and its melodic and inventive style…” (translated)
BMAN’S BLUES REPORT “…it’s a barn burner…Little Sugar is a pure rock n’ roller…sizzling blues/jazz number Think Twice is smoking hot with Gruenling riffing out on harp followed by vocal lead…”
MAKING A SCENE “This is R’n’B, rock n’ roll, and jump blues at its finest. On the opener “Knockin’ My Knees” Gruenling sings several verses before even pickin’ up a harp and his vocal is right on the money.”
BLUES MAGAZINE “Dennis is initially known for its fabulous harmonica technique, but in the meantime he is also nice with his singing skills…a topper on all fronts, no wonder he wins prizes regularly and has secured the necessary awards”
ELMORE MAGAZINE ““Simmer Down” perhaps encapsulates in four minutes why Gruenling is often hailed by his peers as one of the world’s best harmonica players. Now we know, he has even more skills.”
DON & SHERYLS BLUES BLOG “Dennis Gruenling continues to up the ante on why he is one of the most dynamic harp players on today’s scene. “Ready Or Not” is just begging you to give it a listen and put on your dancin’ shoes!!”
MIDWEST RECORD REVIEW “Gruenling takes his harp back to the early days of rock, blows the roof off the sucker and lets the high octane flow…Hot stuff that brings the heat and keeps delivering it well after the temperature has been fully raised”
New Interview on YouTube
I recently did an interview for Lian at Learn The Harmonica, and it is now on YouTube…

From “Ready Or Not” Summer Tour w/Doug Deming & The Jewel Tones
What an unbelievable honor to be featured on the box of Hohner’s top-of-the-line Marine Band style harmonica – the Crossover model!! I have played Hohner harmonicas from day one, and have been been a long-time endorser. Several years ago, I was asked to be a more official endorser, and helped with the development of the Thunderbird model and some other testing. Honored beyond words to be featured on the Hohner Crossover box and as always, I only play Hohner Marine Band style harmonicas…many times these Crossover models right out of the box!

…some recent videos…
NEW Hohner “Thunderbird” harps!
I have been playing some of the brand-new HOHNER Thunderbird harps recently…and why yes, that IS yours truly on the side of the box!! My man Joe Filisko is on the top of the box, who has designed the coverplates for this model, which are similar to the coverplates on the custom low-tuned harps I had Joe start making for me years ago. I have used some of these low tuned harps on our TWO brand new CDs! (“Rockin’ All Day” and “What’s It Gonna Take”…see above)
The new Thunderbird harp is a new model of low-tuned harmonicas, starting at Low F and also available in Low E, Low Eb, Low D, Low C, Low Bb, Low A, Low G, and Low Low F. I have been playing custom-made low-tuned harps for years in a blues & jump blues context and pioneering a new way to play these harp aside from the rhythmic/chugging style that has mainly been used by blues players on low-tuned harps. It’s great to finally have a real nice low-tuned harp that plays well out of the box. And NO, I am not being paid for this, I honestly play Hohners and feel this is a great harp. I have stayed with Hohner since my start because they make great harps and are now continuing to push forward with great new products like the Thunderbird.
I’m getting ready to re-vamp the website for my blues radio show that I host on WFDU – “Blues & the Beat“. This new membership website is the only site with access to the archives from the show (going back almost 10 years), along with some history of the music as well. New lower prices, new giveaways, and members will still have access to over 50 archived programs each month, with new shows being added monthly, and will also be eligible for monthly giveaways! Check out the “Blues & the Beat” website
Be sure to check out the shirts in the shirt store – including the new Bullet Microphone t-shirts, and check out the designs for “BadAss Harmonica”, Sonny Boy Williamson, George ‘Harmonica’ Smith, “Blues & the Beat”, Dennis Gruenling & more…
